Good afternoon to one and all,
Yesterday, July 5, 2015, we kicked-off the 36th Feuerstein International Summer Workshop (aka Shoresh)! This year our annual Shoresh conference is being held at and hosted by our partners, the Department of Science Education and Psychologyat the University of Florence. With more than 230 attendees from 30 countries including Japan, Ireland and Mexico, the enthusiasm and excitement was palatable!
The day began with check-in, where our tireless team outfitted all of our students with their schedules and materials. Shortly after, participants gathered to hear Rabbi Rafi Feuerstein, President of the Feuerstein Institute, deliver a lecture on Critical Thinking. Before commencing his speech, the crowd honored our late founder, Professor Reuven Feuerstein, with minute of silence.
Rabbi Rafi’s and Prof. Lou Falik's lectures were followed by the traditional Opening Ceremony. Orna Segal, CEO of the Feuerstein Institute, officially welcomed the participants. Emcee Chaim Guggenheim read aloud letters of greeting from Professor Alberto Tesi, Rector of the University of Florence, and Dan Haezrahy, Israeli ambassador to Italy.
Following introductions, the participants were treated to the vocal stylings of local legend, Daniela Dolce. The crowd was also shown films from the new Feuerstein promotional series, interspersed with remarks from Milva Segato from the Tuscany Ministry of Education, Prof. Silvia Guetta from the University of Florence, and Rabbi Yoseph Levi from Florence’s Jewish community. The ceremony closed with the traditional "honor the flag" where participants from every country would rise to their flag.
Prof. Silvia Guetta from the University of Florence, who was instrumental at putting the conference together on behalf of the University, was honored with a Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding work of in preparing the Shoresh Workshops.
